Requirements for the J-1 Teacher Exchange Program

The J-1 Teacher Exchange Program gives qualified international educators the opportunity to teach in accredited schools in the United States while participating in a meaningful cultural exchange. 

Because the program is designed to promote educational collaboration and mutual understanding, participants are expected to have the academic background, professional experience, and communication skills needed to succeed in a U.S. classroom. 

If you’re exploring this opportunity, understanding the program’s general eligibility requirements is an important first step. 

A Bachelor’s Degree 

Participants should hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Education or in the subject area they teach.
